Lecture: "Hidden Conflict: The Dark Truths of Tropical Hardwoods"

Lecture Description

We've all fallen victim to the allure of Tropical Hardwoods, especially Ipe. The appearance is elegant, and the lore of its durability can be tempting. But would you still specify Ipe knowing that a single 8' long decking board (nominal 1"x6") would require clearcutting over 1,500 square feet of the Brazilian rainforest - for ONE board. In this presentation, we will unpack the true environmental cost of specifying Ipe and Tropical Hardwoods, so you can educate your clients on future projects. But it's not all doom and gloom in the wood industry - as technological advances in the past 20 years has led to the development of arguably the most high-performance and sustainable products in the building industry.
