Workshop Title: Storytelling through Play: Ideation Workshop for Children's Playgrounds
Workshop Summary: Play is an essential part of life that encourages children to become healthy and resilient adults. Watching a two-year old with furrowed eyebrows experiment with their natural environment, it becomes evident that play facilitates the process of problem solving, risk taking, experimentation and discovery. Landscape Architects are uniquely positioned to design outdoor play spaces that not only benefit children, but also positively contribute to community life. Well-designed playgrounds are community hubs that can potentially reflect local character, culture and values. This workshop will explore the history of playground design and successful playground design principles. A scenario will be presented and groups will explore the ideation of playground design while drawing inspiration from the site context and history.
